Autumn beauty trends ‘18

September has arrived: time to look and feel sensational by getting up to speed on the beauty trends set to fly this autumn…

Powerful prep

According to Vogue, make-up artists are ditching heavy foundations, concealers and powders in favour of layering moisturisers, primers and strobe creams to give a healthy radiance to models’ complexions. If you pitch your prep just right, matching products to your skin tone and type, you’ll get away with a minimal amount of concealer – and a smile.

Tip: Get perfectly prepped with Dermalogica’s Skin Prep Scrub, Age Smart Skin Perfect Primer SPF30, and Hydrablur Primer.

Beautiful blow dry

After a summer of carefree waves and tousled tresses, the autumn is all about a serious blow dry. Coiffed, super-styled, high maintenance, high volume – call it what you will, but the big blow dry is back. Aim for super-sculpted styles that look best with the glossy shine a blow dry can create.

Tip: To get the best out of your blow dry try Shu Uemura’s new Blow Dry Beautifier BB Cream for Thick Hair or Blow Dry Beautifier BB Serum for Fine Hair.

A pop of neon

Neon brights have been big news all summer – rainbow eyes stealing the show everywhere from Pride celebrations to holiday sun loungers. Keep the trend going in autumn but with pops of brightness, rather than a full face of colour. Adding a touch of acid green, yellow or hot pink just above the lash line will work wonders this season.

Tip: Keep brows light and natural to let the colour pop work its magic.

All about the lashes

Eyebrows have been in charge for far too long: this season lashes are taking centre stage. Forget the falsies; the latest look involves keeping your lashes in tip-top condition and coating them in lashings of non-clumping mascara for a naturally dramatic impact.

Tip: Try Medik8’s Full Lash and Brow Serum, a clear serum with hair enhancing peptides to help grow and strengthen weak, dull eyelashes and eyebrows.

Beauty means business

Showcased by Alexander Wang’s models, an 80s-inspired executive look is set to be huge this autumn. We’re talking slicked-back hair, severe side partings, killer brows and pouts in ice pink. 80s hair accessories work well with the look (don’t be afraid to try a bow!) and structured fashion completes the look.

Tip: Reach for Doop the Rebel, a classic high shine pomade with super solid durability for super smooth styles.

Glitter cheekbones

Glitter’s not just about festival chic: the trend is staying for the new season. Rather than a head-turning, full face of glitter, keep it subtly sparkling with a dusting of glitter across your cheekbones, sticking to one colour (gold, silver or pale pink all look chic), rather than the multi-glitz you used in the summer months.

Tip: Look out for eco-friendly glitter to avoid using a product packed with plastic particles.

Ravishing redheads

Think back to the hairstyles used for the autumn/winter 2018 collections and red was the ‘it’ colour on the catwalk. Red blazes a trail in the autumn and will complement the season’s hottest clothes (pale faux fur, caramel suede, leather boots that go on for days, navy and white polka dots and print wrap tops bursting with 70s pizzazz).

Tip: Reveal the shine of vibrant shades, and increase the colour retention of red or copper coloured treated hair, with Pureology Reviving Red Illuminating Caring Oil.

Topknots and banana clips

It’s all about the 80s comeback kids this autumn…who knew banana clips would ever make waves again? Topknots are another must-wear style – just make sure you use a detangling product to avoid any ‘let-down’ disasters.

Tip: Wella Professionals Enrich Detangling Spray, with natural silk extract, penetrates into hair structure, nourishing from within. It helps to strengthen fine and weakened hair and gets rid of stubborn knots: if you’re experimenting with classic 80s looks and accessories, this is the ideal foundation.
