Away with the pixies

A classic cut, the ‘pixie’ is the ideal way to reinvent your look and celebrate the start of the summer holidays.

The closely cropped, feathered pixie (first worn in the ‘50s by gorgeous stars including Audrey Hepburn) is a hairstyle Vidal Sassoon sent viral in the 1960s. Its’ most famous fans in that decade included Mia Farrow, Twiggy and Goldie Hawn.

In 2018, the look has been rocked by a host of A-listers including Kate Hudson (Goldie Hawn’s daughter), Sue Ramirez, Scarlett Johansson and Katy Perry.

Perfect for summer, it’s easy to look after in the first few weeks after having the chop (depending how fast your hair grows; you’ll need follow-up cuts every 5-10 weeks if you want to keep it short) and flatters shorter face shapes, high cheekbones and anyone with stunning facial features, such as big, beautiful eyes or a perfect pout.

If you look particularly feminine (fluttery lashes, generous lips, almond eyes) this cut works well because it will flatter your pretty looks, rather than making you look/feel more masculine.

If you’re ready for the chop, think of the pixie as the foundation of your style, then customise on top. Your choices are infinite: bold colours, textured highlights, a swept fringe, a short ‘fro, a mini Mohawk, a bowl cut, chic accessories, undercuts…we could go on and on.

Strong make-up, with high-definition and pops of colour, creates a fashion-forward look; natural make-up conjures an androgynous, carefree style.

But however you wear your pixie, it’s a fun style – so enjoy it!
