Spots on different parts of the face could indicate different causes
This week, in a new take on ‘face mapping’, Cosmopolitan magazine consulted with Caroline Frazer, skin expert and celebrity make-up artist, to explore what breakouts on different areas of the face might actually mean.
According to the report, forehead spots could indicate over-consumption of red meat, saturated fats and alcohol; spots on your cheeks could be the result of too much meat, sugar and dairy products; jawline spots might mean you’ve been eating too much heavily processed food, which can cause congestion in the large intestine; and chin spots can be a sign of hormonal issues.
A combination of factors are certainly likely to cause, or exacerbate, acne and breakouts, and looking at your diet, your lifestyle and your skincare regime can only help you to get problem skin under control.
It’s not an exact science, but by keeping a detailed diary of your diet, sleep habits, menstrual cycle and alcohol consumption, mapping your face and matching breakouts to food and lifestyle factors, you could get a much better understanding of what’s going on.
In terms of your skin regime, you could also use a personalised face mapping system, picking your products to match the type, behaviour and positioning of your breakouts and blemishes. This could mean buying more product than you usually would, but if you’re only applying it to certain sections of your face, it should last for longer.
