Facial oil: what’s all the fuss about?

Facial oil: what’s all the fuss about?

Find out why facial oil is such a hardworking beauty treatment – then pick the best one for your complexion

Unlike cleanser, toner and moisturiser, facial oil isn’t always seen as a mandatory step in a daily regime, but there are so many benefits it’s certainly worth thinking about adding a suitable facial oil to your beauty collection.

All you have to do is dab a small amount to the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, morning and night, to enjoy the benefits.

Why should I use it?

Facial oil is brilliant if your skin needs a boost of nourishing, smoothing renewal and a protective layer to seal moisture in place.

Using facial oil dates back to the Egyptians: they used Moringa oil to keep their skin looking vibrant and healthy – and today’s facial oils are designed to do the same thing.

Facial oil gives the skin an instant softness and flawlessness and, as well as making skin feel good, it forms a protective layer for the cells. Helping skin absorb other skincare products, facial oil might be the solution if you’re not quite seeing the results you’d like from using serums and moisturisers.

Can I still use facial oil if my skin is greasy?

If you’re prone to oily skin it might sound counterintuitive to use facial oil – but if you choose a product to match your skin type, you might actually find that the natural oil your skin produces is better controlled.

Jojoba oil-based products, for example, can often reduce oil production, so they can balance out any topical acne treatments you use, which can be drying. Facial oils containing tea tree can help to calm breakouts and control pimples.

Other oils can pull out grime and dirt from your pores, making them appear smaller and less noticeable, and some have anti-inflammatory properties, so they can help to calm down irritated skin.

So if you assumed facial oils weren’t an option for problem skin – think again!
