Whether you have thin, thick, course, short or long hair, we can all be prone to frizz and we want to share with you our top tips for taming it!
First of all, Why does our hair get frizzy? Because the outer layer of our hair (the cuticle) is damaged/ broken and lifts away from the centre of the cuticle. The outer layer will left away will dry out the hair therefore, your hair becomes dehydrated and seeks moisture from the air – causing frizz and twice the amount of frizz in humidity. Your hair will absorb that moisture it is lacking and swell causing frizz.
You can prevent harming the cuticles by;
- Minimise the use of hot styling tools on your hair to prevent damage, extra unnecessary heat and stripping your hair of what natural oils your have left
- Minimise the amount of hair washes you do. Try and do 2 washes a week only to prevent losing all your hairs natural oils
- Get regular hair cuts to cut away those split ends and causing more damaged to the hair cuticle. Don’t forget your heat protection products either!
- Avoid towel rubbing on your hair. The friction will add more damage. Pat it dry and gently squeeze out the water with a towel.
Products to use to tame frizz;
- Find a shampoo that works for you. Your shampoo formula could be making matters worse. Look for something frizz dismissing and super moisturising. Look for products that are alcohol and sulphate free as these will strip less of the moisture from your hair.
- A hydrating conditioner; adding moisture where possible will help to repair and seal the hair cuticle making it less susceptible to frizz.
- Once a week apply a hair mask for a serious hit of hydration and TLC. Oil infused products are going to work wonders to frizz tame!
- Use a hair diffuser when blow drying or if possible air dry to minimise heat damage and losing more moisture.
