Step into Spring..

Step into Spring..

Finally, spring is officially here!

It feels like the cold and bleak winter months were never ending and we sure are fed up of snow, freezing winds and chilly temperatures here.

Spring has Sprung!

As we say goodbye to winter and the dry, flaky skin that comes with it we can look forward to spring and start wishing for summer. Hopefully, we will see some sun this spring, a boost in moisture and some brighter skin. Lets talk skincare and how we can adjust our routine for a new season.

Lets get started and exfoliate away the dead and flaky and winter skin on both our face and body. Our top face exfoliator pick is Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, a unique rice-based enzyme powder microfoliates dulling debris to reveal brighter, smoother skin and stimulate cell renewal for improved suppleness. Gentle enough for daily use and you can see instant results and improvements with your skin. For your body we love the Decleor 1000 Grain Body Exfoliator – A sumptuous body scrub to leave skin feeling smooth, softened and refined. This indulgent scrub helps provide skin a velvety-smooth finish. Enriched with Grapefruit Essential Oil, which gives it a sparkling, invigorating fragrance, and a combination of Pearl Sugar, Argan Shell and Orange Peel with Fruit Acids and skin is left feeling softer, smoother and refined.

Lighten up – If you have upped your moisturiser levels over winter and you are using the most nourishing and hydrating products possible you can probably take it down a notch. There is more moisture in the air in spring time and your skin won’t be drying out as easily.  If you are looking for a ‘normal’ moisturiser that will do the job nicely and add keep you hydrated throughout the day without leaving you a greasy mess, then try the Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream. There is a reason this is a best seller with Dermalogica! A medium-weight cream with soothing botanicals and antioxidant vitamins to maintain skin’s moisture balance while improving texture, helping to restore suppleness and tone.

Further to this, as the weather and season changes so can our skin. If your skin doesn’t seem to be responding how you would have hoped or you feel it is overly dry or overly oily it may be a time to look at the other steps in your routine and make some changes, add or take away products. Take a look at your cleanser, toner and serum to see if they are still working well for your skin and delivering the results you are looking for. You could be over or under moisturising, your cleanser maybe too stripping or too heavy or you may be using too many products or not enough!

We all know we should be wearing sunscreen all year round however, if you have let that habit slip over the winter months because of the lack of sun, this is the time to re-introduce it into your routine. (Hopefully) the sun will be out much more, and you need to keep your skin protected! Sunscreen can be found in moisturisers, serums, primers, foundations then your stand-alone SPF’s. There is something for everyone. Here is previous blog posts about how you can incorporate SPF into your routine if you have been slacking in this area. Chances are your most loved products are now formulated with SPF anyway e.g. the best selling marine cream is now formulated with an SPF 30 . Try and use something with an SPF of 30 or higher!

With regards to makeup, try a lighter base and let your skin breathe. Heavy foundations do have the ultimate coverage, however, can clog pores and cause more breakouts. Try a lighter base such as CC/ BB cream or tinted moisturiser, we love the Gatineau Perfection Ultime Anti-ageing Complexion Cream, this comes in light, medium and dark. It is a lightweight tinted moisturiser with SPF 30 is a power-packed peptide formula to increase collagen and elastin production, promote a smoother and firmer appearance. If this isn’t quite enough coverage for you then choose a concealer the same colour as your skin tone/ foundation (this isn’t the time to opt for a light/ brightening shade) and apply the concealer only to where it’s needed over blemishes/ redness/ dark spots etc. this will create a light and airy base whilst still giving you the coverage you need, only where you need it! A brand such as Amazing Cosmetics have a variety of different concealers including hydrating, illuminating one and full coverage, you can find your perfect match!

Now your skincare routine has been updated and fit for the warmer weather its time for a spring clean! Everyone knows this is a popular time to give your home a shake up, a thorough clean and a clear out but your skincare and makeup stash with need the same TLC and there’s no better time than the beginning of the spring season.  Check expiry dates on your makeup and skincare. Each product should have the ‘used by date once opened’ and some products that contain an SPF have an expiry date. Using out of date skincare and makeup can cause more damage than good on your skin. Out of date SPF will not be effective and old makeup can contain germs that will clog pores and cause breakouts. Get rid.
