The False Lash Lowdown

The False Lash Lowdown

Eyelashes make one of the biggest impacts on our looks, hence all the cosmetics and serums that are made to lengthen, plump and volumise our lashes. They make our eyes look bigger and definitely command a lot of attention. Though the cosmetics to the dramatic effect that wearing a pair of false lashes can offer.

False eyelashes, are small clusters of synthetic or human hairs that are glued together to make an eyelash. The false eyelash can be applied in small sections to subtly increase the fullness of your natural eyelashes or as an entire piece for a dramatic effect. Although false eyelashes can improve the look of your eyes and make your lashes seem longer and thicker, they can also cause eye infections and allergic reactions if they are not used properly. So we have your Lash Lowdown to help you navigate your way to lovely long lashes.

The Different Types Of Lashes:

  1. Strip Lashes – Strip lashes are one of the most popular lashes in the fashion industry. This is because despite being fake, these falsies blend seamlessly with your real eyelashes and appear closer to natural. They are also the easiest ones to apply.

  1. Individual lashes – These lashes do not come in a strip and they have to be attached individually to the lash line. They might consume more time, when being applied on but they look way more natural than strip lashes.

  1. Long and short lashes – Long and short lashes are another type of false lashes, which have a bold pattern of long and short lashes, placed alternatively.

  1. Half Lashes – Half Lashes seem to fuse both the dramatic and natural effect. They are specially directed to the external corner of the eye, making the look more impressive and romantic.

How to apply False Eye Lashes:

Step 1 – Curl your natural lashes. To create a shelf for your false lashes to sit on, curl your natural lashes and apply mascara which will help support their weight.

Step 2 – Cut to fit. Cut your false lashes to perfectly fit your eyelid. You can also divide them up into smaller pieces or thin them out to create a more natural, less chunky look.

Step 3 – Add your adhesive. You will want to trace a very fine line on each of the lash bands with the adhesive, NOT apply it to your eyelids. Wait a few moment for the adhesive to dry and become a bit tacky before applying.

Step 4 – Stick them on. For better placement use your fingers to apply your extensions, unless you are more comfortable with tweezers. You will want to start by placing the lash from the outer corner first, keeping it as close as possible to the lash line.

Removing False Eye Lashes:

Remove your false lashes before beginning your makeup removal routine.

Step 1Soften Adhesive. Soften the adhesive with a Q tip soaked in a good quality makeup remover, such as Dermalogica Soothing Eye Makeup Remover.

Step 2Removing. Run your swab along the lash line, then grab the extension by the outer corner and slowly peel the strip away from your real lash.

Cleaning your Lashes:

It is recommended that you clean your False Lashes every day to help keep bacteria away from your eye that could cause an infection. You can also prolong the life of your lashes.

Step 1Peel off the glue residue. If you look closely enough, you will see the remaining strip of adhesive stuck on the base of your false eyelash. You need to peel the remaining off so it’s ready to be re-glued next time.

Step 2 – Clean the lashes. Fill a small bowl with warm water and a little bit of soap or liquid makeup remover. Place your false lashes into the cleaning solution and very gently rub them to encourage mascara or other makeup to dissolve off them.

Step 3 – Let them dry. Once the false lashes are clean, then set them in a clean place to dry.

Important things to know:

NEVER wear them to bed – Wearing false eyelashes to bed or for more than one day can cause bacteria to collect under the eyelash glue and on the false eyelash, causing eye infections.

DO NOT share your False Eye Lashes or Adhesive – False eyelashes and adhesive should not be shared, as many eye infections, like conjunctivitis and eye sties, are contagious and can be passed by sharing eye products.

ALLERGIC reactions – False eyelashes and eyelash glue contain chemicals that may cause an adverse reaction in some individuals. Like any makeup, eyelash glue should be tested on your wrist or the back of your hand 24 hours before using it on your eyes. If there is a red mark, rash or the skin swells around the test area, the product should not be used.
